The Best Iced Chocolate Recipe

In honour of National Hot Chocolate Day, I want to share my recipe for the perfect cozy, sweet treat. However, since it’s currently summer in Australia, we’ll add a twist and pour some ice over it. After all, who craves a hot drink in the midst of a sweltering Australian summer? Although you can enjoy it hot, having it iced is equally delicious.

This recipe is perfect with any type of milk you prefer.

Ingredients:

There are only four ingredients in this recipe. This is such a simple recipe, but it’s so good! We don’t need to overcomplicate; we just need some high-quality ingredients to make this stand out.

  • Milk: You can use dairy or dairy-free milk, including oat milk, soy milk, or almond milk. There should be a “milky” or “barista” option in the plant-based varieties, which ultimately makes it creamier than its regular counterpart. You can choose this one if you want a creamy drink.
  • Chocolate: The main character of our recipe! You can use any type, just make sure to finely chop it. The best type to use in this would be dark or bittersweet, as it’s less sweet than the regular one.
  • Cacao Powder: You need both types of chocolate to make this recipe so utterly chocolate-y.
  • Vanilla Paste: We’ll use this for flavor and for a bit of sweetness. I prefer paste to extract because it packs more flavour, but that can work too. You can also add a sweetener of your choice if you want it to be sweeter, depending on your taste.
  • Cinnamon: Totally optional, but can do wonders!

How to make the best iced chocolate ever

  • 4 cups milk
  • 4 tbsp cacao powder
  • 5 ounces finely chopped chocolate
  • 1 tbsp vanilla paste
  • dash of cinnamon
The prep is equally as important as having the right ingredients. Start by whisking together the milk, cocoa powder and vanilla paste in a saucepan over medium heat until it steams and there is no more cocoa powder left to see. Be careful not to let it boil. Once it’s hot enough, slowly add your chocolate until it’s all melted. Turn the stove off and let it cool for a bit.

Get your favourite glass, add some ice cubes, and start pouring your chocolate drink! To finish it off, top with a bit of ground cinnamon.

Happy drinking!
