Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espress dupe in a gin glass

Last week, I found myself in a bit of a rut – a coffee rut, that is. I was going through a phase of cold brew every morning (recipe coming soon!) and loved every single minute of it. However, like with all new things, the shine on it started to wear down and I found myself wanting to push the envelope more and craving something more exciting. Obviously, i found myself on Reddit trying to scour for coffee recipe inspo!

Ahhhh I’m so glad I did! I ended up on the starbucks subreddit and let me tell you, if you are a coffee lover – you are missing out if you’re not on there! The subreddit offers valuable information from actual Starbucks baristas about how to make your at-home coffee better! As I was scrolling, one thing that caught my eye was that a LOT of people were talking and asking about the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso drink. There’s no Starbucks where I live (Newcastle, Australia), so I wasn’t sure what they were talking about but it sure sounded delicious. I dug up more information about the drink and turns out its a huge customer AND barista favourite! Consider me intrigued. This had me digging up information about how to make it and after looking up some, I decided to try it out myself.

… WOW. New favourite drink alert!!

How to make the Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espress Recipe

I tweaked the recipes I found online and let me tell you – THIS ONE IS SO GOOD and if you already look forward to your iced latte every morning, this drink will make you want to jump out of bed and head to the kitchen first thing.

The recipe below uses brown sugar – I make mine from scratch but you can buy the monin brand and it’s sooo good! – which gives it a caramel-y flavour. It also uses plant-based milk (hence oatmilk name) but I think it’s okay to substitute with dairy milk as you should only use a splash of it anyway. All the yumminess and froth comes from the shaken espresso – a crucial step you should not miss. I’m literally so annoyed right now that I can’t make it again because it’s the afternoon but you bet it’s the first thing I’m making tomorrow morning!

Without further ado, here is my Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso Recipe dupe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 shots espresso
  • 3 pumps brown sugar
  • 2 tsps Vanilla extract or paste
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Looooots of ice
  • ¼ cup oatmilk
  1. Make your espresso as you like. I make mine in a bialetti moka pot using Illy classico medium roast ground coffee.  Set aside.
  2. Get a shaker (I don’t have this, so I use a nutribullet tall cup and close with the extracting blade bottom lol – it works!!) and put all your ice ( a venti amount ), the espresso shots, brown sugar, vanilla paste/extract, and ground cinnamon. Close the shaker.
  3. Shake as you would a mocktail until its frothy (probably around 10 seconds)
  4. Pour into a tall glass, top with the oatmilk, and ENJOY (one of the best morning drinks ever!)
Pls do let me know if you decide to try this and if it’s become your new go-to drink as well. Have fun shaking things up!
