What we ate

Soft Shell Crab Salad

Crispy, deep-fried soft shell crab perched on a bed of fresh baby leaves, finished with a creamy fish roe dressing that adds a subtle briny pop. Light but indulgent – a perfect way to start the meal.

Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pajeon)
Golden and crisp on the outside, soft and packed with tender morsels of seafood and spring onions on the inside. Savoury, comforting, and ideal for sharing around the table.

Deep-Fried King Prawns Salad
A personal favourite of mine as I’ve always loved tempura. Juicy king prawns coated in a light, crunchy batter, paired with a fresh salad and delicate dressing to balance the richness. Addictive and surprisingly refreshing.

Seafood Okonomayaki

Another banger. A Japanese-inspired savoury pancake layered with seafood, drizzled generously with sweet soy glaze and mayonnaise, and sprinkled with bonito flakes that curl and wave from the heat. Messy, sweet-savoury, and completely satisfying.

Katsu set – kids menu

Big portion for the kids, comes with chips.

On our next visit, we’re eyeing the rest of the Hanok Korean BBQ menu: wagyu beef cuts, pork belly, sets and platters, Korean fried chicken in multiple flavours, and even a kids menu for the little ones. Our next visit might have a to be with a big group of friends!

Final thoughts

What we love most about Hanok Korean BBQ is the experience itself – people huddling around the grill with tongs in hand, cooking premium meats over smoky charcoal, and sharing plates until you can’t manage another bite. It’s interactive, a little theatrical, and perfect for groups. As far as Korean BBQ buffets in Newcastle go, this one delivers on quality and vibe. So if you’re wandering the Westfield Kotara rooftop and craving a fun, delicious night out, Hanok restaurant is hard to walk past.
